How to apply for a PAN card ?

Here are the steps to apply a PAN card.

As you know, Every individual in India should have a PAN card to file income tax returns and financial transactions. It is a non-transferable identity card issued by NSDL on behalf of the Government of India. It also acts as a government ID proof for the citizens of India. An individual can use it as proof of identity to buy a vehicle to get a loan or to avail other services. Whenever you go to bank to deposit money 50 thousand or more than that, you will ask to submit the PAN card, So before its too late and bypass the on-time rush , lets apply for a Pan card and keep it with us for future use.

Usually, a PAN card is applied by a person who is above the age of 18, but a student can also apply for a PAN card. There are 2 modes of applying a PAN cards which are offline and online. PAN card is applied based on the age If you are not adult and below 18 years then apply for a Minor PAN card or else apply for regular PAN card.

How to apply for a PAN card offline:

Step 1: Get a copy of Form 49A by downloading it from the NSDL or UTIITSL website.

Step 2: Based on your age limit, select the option for a Minor or Regular(18+) PAN card as provided in the form.

Step 3: Submit the required documents as mentioned in the application form.

Step 4: Submit both the documents , application fee as well as the filled-in and signed form to the nearest TIN facilitation office.You can check the nearest available office by visiting below link:

Step 5: First you will receive a pan acknowledgement.

Step 6: Once the application has been verified and processed. You will be notified by an email or msg on your registered no which you must have filled in application form.You will also receive your PAN card by post to the address provided in the online form.

How to apply for a PAN card online through the NSDL website:

Step 1: Go to the NSDL website as below:

Step 2: Select the application type. You can select fresh application 49A or correction form etc from the dropdown.

Select Applications type

Step 3: Read the instructions provided in the form, and select the appropriate category (Individual, Trust, Firm, Company etc) from the dropdown under “category”

Please select the category

Step 4: Fill in the complete online application form with the requirements like full name, address, date of birth, Aadhaar number (if applicable) etc.

Fill all the required informations

Step 5: Scan and attach the required documents(you could see the required list of documents as below) and click on submit.

Submit the application

Step 6: You can also send the documents by post along with the acknowledgement to the department offline.

Step 7: Once you click on submit it will ask you to verify the application via Aadhar card, you will get an otp on your aadhar registered mobile and once you enter it , application will get submitted.

Step 8: After verification,You will get your softcopy of Pancard allocated to you in you email box and after few days you will get the hardcopy as well.

Documents Required to submit a PAN card application:

Passport-sized photograph (2) in case of offline.

Anyone of the below identity proof:

  • Passport copy
  • Aadhaar card copy
  • Driving Licence copy
  • Voter’s ID card copy
  • Ration card copy (with the photograph)
  • Original identity certificate attested by a Gazetted Officer or MLA
  • Bank certificate duly signed by the Branch Manager

Anyone of the below for address proof

  • Passport copy
  • Aadhaar card copy
  • Bank account statement (not older than 3 months)
  • Driving licence copy
  • Electricity Bill/gas connection bill/telephone bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Voter ID card copy
  • Post office passbook containing the applicant’s address (copy)
  • Government-issued Domicile Certificate copy
  • Credit Card statement (not older than 3 months)
  • Original Certificate of Address attested by a Gazetted Officer or MLA
  • Central/State Government-issued Letter of Allotment Accommodation (not older than 3 years)

If you are applying online , then you will need only Aadhar card to get the PAN Card.
